Feeding cows on stalks.

Subject: So why do cows hit the mineral hard sometimes, not at other times?



They hardly touch the stuff when the grass is green and lush.. Pasture dries out in the fall and winter and it seems like the cows hit the mineral hard.

Maybe they are just bored and looking for something to do? Like me when I'm in the house I keep going to the fridge to see what's in it. Nothing changes LOL!

Since I've been feeding hay the mineral consumption is way down compared to how it was before I started feeding hay. The cows have more "spare time" now that I'm feeding them a bit.
