| Probably the biggest thing a few ranchers fail to think about is nutritional requirements. The old way of dumping hay still exists in many places today. Understanding a cows requirements at various times of the year is something as an industry we need to get better at. Those needs can be met many ways and when we have a time of high feed costs and maybe entering a period of low prices, we need to meet those needs as economical as we can. As John says, every area has to utilize the resources that best fits our area. I still see beef cows belly deep in CRP hay that look like they're starving in this area. | |
