I'll defer to your experience in farming over mine Don. Just want to direct your attention to something, the CRB index (which as you know is more than just grains):

It would appear that as of 2004, commodities in general launched themselves out of that price channel.

The "new plateau" of 1973-onwards was due to the US leaving the Bretton Woods agreement. I suspect the next plateau, if it holds, would be for the same reason - devaluation of the buck.
