Your costs have nothing to do with where the market goes as John stated--and if you are not willing to produce at 3$ there will be someone there who is. Storage is a solid investment, I will not aruge that, but imho it is taking the gains in basis and carry that will make it profitable. If you are in a situation where you can hold grain for that long (years) more power to, most of us aren't, so we will sell with in a year of production to cover costs, therefore keep the prices down. As Don said the productive ability of the American farmer and the gurus behind GMO stuff I would add is something we have just begun to tap...I hope we never see 2$ corn again, but if you have eliminated 3$ corn from the picture I think that is a little naive. Just hope for the best, prepare for the worst. All this is cyclical.
