Subject: solar charger size for electric murphy switch

Was thinking or replacing the alternator which doesnt stay working for two months in a row on irrigation engine. warranty is no good on any alternators on irrigation use. Thought I would try a solar panel 12v trickle charger. My options are 1.8 watt or 5 watt. 1,8 watt is about 35 bucks when 5 watts are 80 bucks. How big do I need? Was thinking IF I have to to put 2 -12volt batteries together for more storage if necessary. Wouldnt the 1.8 watt keep up with the electric draw from the murphy fuel shut off switch??? Then when it was off charge back what the starter draws off? or gradually charge that back too over time. I dont have ANY idea how many watts the murphy draws. Any suggestions???
