I think Dean is right. I think your braces are too high. I put my cross braces a little over half way up the corner posts, and generally use hedge. If you're using a factory post, you might also consider nailing a couple 2x4's to it. Better is concrete. I don't have any specific distance apart for the corners, it generally has to do with whatever piece of scrap I have for brace material. A lot of times it is a 6 1/2 foot T post. I have also done the floating braces. What that amounts to, is a 30 degree or so post down to a concrete block or something and then wired back to the post. It works O.K. for 2 or 3 wire fences but I wouldn't trust if for more than that. Got some 4 and 6 wire fences that are holding fine. Neighbor tried to do a 4 wire fence with 6" steel pipe and concrete and no braces. I see that with little tension on the fence the centers of his gates seem to be getting higher, ;0)
