Subject: Air system and 3 phase converters

Marengo, Iowa
I have been reading with interest the threads about air systems. We looked at putting in a converter to power a air system w/ 3 phase motors, and power company and electricians both said we couldn't do it. I would like to hear some comments about the pros and cons of 3 phase converters. I talked to 2 different electrical contractors and they both said they wouldn't recommend them. The electrical supplier, Alliant, said " our service was not enough to handle the surge at start up of the converters". We ended up using 6" augers for our system, and I dread the day when they wear out.
