As has been mentioned, fly control, vaccination, and a good mineral program are the best and really the only thing you can do to prevent pinkeye.

As the old saying goes you can treat pinkeye and it will get better in a week. Left untreated it will be better in 7 days.

I believe antibiotics might help a bit. Penecillin flush the eye using a syringe with no needle or use one of those mastitis treatement tubes to flush up around the eyelids. Got to have the head restrained quite well which is highly unlikely to have access to a suitable facility in distant summer pastures miles from nowhere. Another home remedy I have heard of but never tried is WD40. I haven't had much pinkeye trouble in recent years. Usually goes in streaks. If they do get pinkeye if it's not too bad they get over it with no permanent harm.
