If you want to deal with scours as cheaply as possible you will figure out how to do this. Even if you have to calve later it is worth it to not have to watch the continuous loosing battle with scours. You won't need the Bio-Mos, Scourguard or any other pharmaceuticals. This is the voice of experience speaking. I was going through antibiotics like it was water when we were calving in the corral and then pushing the cattle out. Now they calve on fresh ground and they never have the opportunity to get scours.

Common scours that kills so many calves is usually from a bacteria that is common in the environment and passed by the cow. It is then picked up by the calf and the calf acts as a multiplier for it. By calving in the same spot all season long you are virtually guaranteeing yourself a scours problem because by the time you get about half way through your season you have so loaded your calving area with scours bacteria that the later calves don't stand a chance. Simply moving your cattle out of the calving area after they have calved isn't enough, they have already had exposure to the bacteria. If you want to be a low cost producer you will figure out how to make this method work. If you want to try to deal with the problems associated with this calving system by using pharmaceuticals I hope you have deep pockets.
