| We have used spacings down to 4 3/4 inch. Researchers said that if you have a total even distance between plants you get the best yoelds? And we are talking about yields bejond 130 bu/acre on wheat. What we got?
- expensive seeders, no trash clearance at all. Taht wasn't needed as the genereal system was plow and power harrow with a mounted drill
- bad drieng of the plants, so good and shure fungi pressure
Now we are going more to 6 and 8 1/4 inch and the yield is still high. Now researchers come and say that even higher yields are possible with nearly 10 inch spacing. So what?
I have a client which has 12 9/10 inch and metering with a precision singulator. Guess what? He got the same yields, but nearly no fungi.
Anyway, the mositure you aren't retending with the canopy as effective as with a residue cover. As more residue you leave on as better the moisture retention is.
