I had a calf freeze his feet, he lost both hind hooves and was very tender on his feet. He did really well when small but as he got older and heavier he didnt get around very well. He got to about 300 lbs. sold him in the fall before winter as I new he wouldnt do well in the feedlot with other calves, got $12.00 for him. Next time this happens I will put down and spike orphan calf on cow. Some might ask why didnt you butcher it? Well because when you have 100 nice yealing steers in the pasture why would you want to eat a crippled calf, I only butcher top notch animals just the way I was brought up.
