![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=3710&type=profile&rnd=330) Ste. Rose, MB | Thanks Roy,
Most of our bulls mature around 2300-2800 lbs. Cows range from 1300 to 1800 lbs. We still have a few older cows that may be a bit more then 1800 lbs but we like to keep our average around 15-1700 lbs. Larger animals seem to do better in the cold & raise heavier calves, of course this would be in comparison to lets say a 11-1200 lbs cow.
Fleckvieh is a strain of the Simmental breed. A Fleckvieh Simmental is an animal who's ancestry traces back to Germany or Austria. (there are also South African Fleckviehs) The French & Swiss Simmentals have been eliminated from North America and we kind of all know why. They were popular back in the 70's & 80's but they just weren't economical cattle to be running, especially for the commercial man. Tall, hard doing & just too extreme. Therefore the Fleck lines were only used & it spelled the end for the French & Swiss lines. Now in Canada the Red Polled Simmies are being used extensively, being crossed with the Flecks makes a tremendous cross. Also some Black Simmies but not as popular, probably on account of the climate & they don't perform quite as well, imo. So to answer your question Roy, yes, the Fleckvieh & Simmentals are basically the same thing. A Fullblood Simmental will always be a fleckvieh individual so everyone just calls them "fullbloods or traditional Simmies.
Here are a few more pics of some bulls taken in November. They have grown quite a bit ![Laughing](../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif)
