Calving helpfull hints???

If at all possible I'd recommend going to a later calving season if it would fit your program. I used to lamb in Feb so I could calve in March so I could farm in April. I wouldn't survive doing that today Fighting the weather, warming chilled calves, keeping barn doors shovelled out, etc. It's just too much. 5 years ago I started late April calving. The hardest part now is making the bulls behave until July 15 turnout date. Right now everyone else around here is having to ramp up nutrition for cows that are in the last trimester. Everyone knows what feed prices are today. My cows can coast a bit longer. Doesn't take near as much high quality feed later on and put those new mommas out on green grass.
