NE CO | Y'up, I think foreboding is a good description of my feelings as well. The few city friends that I correspond with regularly have no connection to the land and their food supply. They only know what the popular press feeds them and they follow the herd. Right now, they think farm subsidies are making us rich, and the poor are being persecuted because of the ethanol mandates, and farmers are making obscene profits. Envious is the best description. They have no concept of how higher input costs are negating the higher crop prices, and no idea at all of how marketing decisions (having sold all of my wheat at $5) negates much of their impression of my profit levels. Oh well, I still have a quality of life they can only imagine. | |
