It's all relative. Most who boradcast over fertilize (using same or similar amounts each time spread for each respective crop - some might be based upon crop removal). The advantage to stip-till banding is that you won't over fertilize - atleast not at the level of broadcasting and especially higher areas caused by overlapping.
