Subject: regarding the strip till below

About 5-6 years ago I attended a mtg. put in by the UofM Extension in St. Paul. One of the upper level researchers who I will not name, was saying you could reduce nutrient inputs in a band because it so efficient. I asked after the session if crop removal changed in banded situations and after much dancing around the question he admitted crop removal is similar in all systems. Furthermore he then said "well you will have to broadcast the difference every five years or so, or the soil test levels will go down." Keep in mind it took a good 5 minutes of one on one, asking basically the same question, to get him to admit this. My bottom line on this banding is more efficient but plant remaoval will need to be replaced or you will lower test levels.
