Subject: Would you put some N on late planted soybeans?

Oskaloosa, Iowa 52577

We are about to spray soybeans------"foliar feed"--------

We have several fields of late planted soybeans where the beans are short (6-8 inches) and the foxtail is thick.

Due to the really dry weather todate.........although we just received about 3-4 inches last night.............I am concerned that these beans need a boost.

We apply N via sodium nitrate (Chilean nitrate 16-0-0)...........and have a bunch left over from corn.

We usually put about 2-3 lbs on with each foliar feeding..........would you boost that in order to help the soybean plant get more roots/stimulate the roots?

I realize the foxtail would be fed also, but we have noticed in the past where the beans got the sunshine and had the nutrients, that the foxtail.......although yields were not unaffected..........yields were not torpedoed...........so I would rather make sure the beans got fed.

And, we are taking steps to eliminate some of the foxtail now.........will probably have a bunch gone before spraying.

Thanks.
