With race horse types I usually put 20 -30 gallons N with the planter and the balance of 60 gal at about V6 or later

What form of N are you using? 30 gals of 28% is 90lbs of N and 60 gallons would 180lbs of N - Maybe I missed yet another meeting on how much N to apply (usually we are around 220lbs of N counting N from soybeans).
