| Tim, you make a good point concerning the plowpan. That was a problem with molboard plowing fields for several years straight. My son use to work for a seed company & they have fields that have been in continious seed corn production since the '60s . These fileds are plowed every year. Son said when they detasseled after heavy rains the detasslers would sink to the plowpan then go.
I still feel plowing has it's beneifits, for one it is a great controler of diseases, but like anything, overuse has it's drawbacks.. I would go back to plowing if it wasn't so time consuming & fuel inefficient but would use it in a rotation with a deep ripper if raising continious corn. | |
