cropsey, il 61731 | I looked around at some ground in the 5500 range that has good yield potential/history, but needs tile. It looks like it can go along way to paying it's way in these markets and yields as of late. For me though, I'm paying on hog sheds that pay every month so it's a little hard to look at an investment that may have trouble in the future if markets go against us. On the other hand, it seems like prices are looking for new plateaus almost every day and seed companies are finally getting some pretty good results from their technology investments. It could be that prices don't retreat back below $3 much anymore and 300bpa corn yields start becoming the 200bpa people used to brag about 10 years ago (meaning 250 might be an normal yield). I don't doubt that this could happen, but the timing vs your ability to stay on the investment could get tricky.
Overall though, if this is the business you are going to be in and love, you'll find a way to make it work - seems to be the farmer way.
