Cliff, our experiance with March beans is almost identicel to yours. This is the first year in the last 5 that we didn't plant any in march- too wet. I've yet to have frost damage yet with our early beans, but soys I've seen in the past that have frosted were very resiliant as it turns out. I think (not sure) that no-till in conjunction with cover crops prevents some of risk of frost injury. Thats not a for sure on my part, just a gut feeling.
If the weather isn't condusive (in my mind) to corn planting in March or April, and the grounds right, I don't have a problem planting soys before corn. But then, bean beetles is maybe a 1 year in 10 event for us up here, too.
