| For you Hard Wheat growers, keep on eye on MGEX.com Word is they are going to "retool" so tospeak the HRSI and HRWI to encourage more volume. These are cash setteled indexes, no basis to worry about and convergence is that, convergence.
I, for one have been holding off doing HTA's with an elevator simply because I want to be able to sell my cash grain to the highest cash bidder. However I would still like to be able to "HEDGE". Hopefully this may be the way to do it. As far as HTA's up here in Northern Montana, 2008 hedges are costing $.25/bus and 2009 are $.50/bushel. This is ridiculous as they are jerking your chain twice as they have you by the "basis" so to speak as well!! Better off hedging yourself, yes you will have a margin to finance, a yes you may lose cash on it, but if you MANAGE it rather than ignoring it you will be better of than letting the elevator do it for you.
Anyway, keep an eye on MGE.com for news. I am simply a farmer, just passing on info.........
