Subject: Re: Soybean row width discussion.....again

Berrien County Michigan
We've been planting 15" row beans for 8 years. In our area its almost 100% 15" row beans except for a few small operations that still plant 7.5" rows. I'm not even aware of any 30" row beans here. We have some soil that would probably benefit from 30" row beans but we run two planters in the spring so it would be hard to plant 30" row beans anyway. We like to plant early and the narrow rows seem to help canopy and hold out the weeds, although we always seem to respray a few fields. We plant 175k poplution and don't have much trouble getting 50bpa beans in a good year. When it comes to stand i can show you some great looking 15" row beans and some ugly ones, seems the date you plant is more important the color or size of your planter around here. Overall we're happy and have no plans to change row width.
