Driftless SW Wisconsin | What populations were you planting at the different widths? Your difference from 30 to 7-1/2" is 6.42 bu which at $6. beans = about $38 which is about a bag of beans whicch is about the difference in population many folks plant.
Add to that the increased possibility of white mold in drilled beans, difficulty in good rust spray coverage if necessary, machinery costs, etc and I think your data indicates truly about a wash profit-wise. Add other potential benefits of 30" beans such as one planter (for some folks) row cleaning possibilities, strip till systems etc. There is more to profit than just yield. It's the net income that counts, not the gross.
Thanks for sharing your data. jmho.
