Lightening makes it's own rules. It may do no damage, a little damage, lingering damage that shows up later, or TOTALLY destroy objests.

My guess (strickly a guess) is that the pumphouse was not hit, but was the result of a lightening strick to or near the barn.

Also, The charge could have followed an electrical line or a water line in either direction between the pumphouse and barn.
