I assume that you are using your current radios in talk around mode. Meaning that the tx ans rx are the same frequency. When you go to the repeater system your tx will be the frequency that goes to the repeater and you rx will be what you have now. The GM300 will program fine for that. They have been used in the fire and police for years. Those systems most generally run through a repeater. I assume the reason you are going to the repeater is to boost your range. On our VHF fire repeater we can go 45 miles with a mobile. 15-20 miles with a handheld. We run all Kenwoods. I like them better than the Motorolla's. You can program them yourself without having to send them anywhere. When the gov't switches entirely over to the 800mhz systems there will be tons of used VHF and UHF radios for sale.
