| Whether posts are pipe drill stem or wood of some sort,,,BIGGEST problem is manure contact,,,thats what really accelerates the rotting of one form or another. ANYTHING to keep posts from manure contact 24/7 is an improvement. Even an ice cream bucket full of concrete around the post greatly pulled up in the middle to resemble a pencil point upside down so 'rain' and elements keep moving it away from the post.
MY favorite feedlot post is the recyled plastic post,,,it doesnt care how wet or crapped on the ground is,,,it doesnt rot!! The 5" by 8 footers are about the best!!
MY other favorite find was some old 9" (odd ball size to boot)steel irrigation pipe that turned holey. Stacked between two 5X 10footers (recycled)about 8 or 9 high makes a terrific windbreak. THEN take a few heavy wires and tie posts together thru the cracks so BOTH posts are together. Just enough wind goes thru to make them work right!! Other good part is cattle dont challenge that area either,,so doubles as a pretty good fence like for a high pressure area!!(mine is parked just outside 4X4 wire)
I have seen reject non -rolled bin sheets sell at the Behlen sale in Columbus,,,they sell real high. Cant imagine trying to roll curved ones back flat!! Tried that once, still curved to a point!! BUT they are heavy!! | |
