Subject: RE: Question about pipe posts

We're usually dry here with anything from sand to heavy clay soils. What most are doing in our area with drill stem is dig a hole for pipe (using 9-10 in. bit), set the pipe and use road gravel or some use pea gravel to fill the hole and tamp. For the top, some will notch out for a top rail, or those with a press will flatten the top 6 in. or so to weld a drill stem on top then use 3/4 to 7/8 sucker rod to finish off the sides. There are many ranch welders in the area that make cont. fence that is cheaper than sucker rod.
