Subject: Grazing Cover Crops

S.E. Minnesota
Was wondering what other livestock producers were planting for cover crops.
We have planted rye & oats for many years. Six years ago we started to add hairy vetch
to the post sweet pea harvest cover crop mix as it is planted early enough to get established
before fall freeze up. For the first time this summer also tried purple top forage turnips-
cows are still digging through snow to get at them! Any other plant species that are working
for you guys? Thanks.
