Nebraska, K-State Have Gridiron-Type Hassle Over Research

Researchers at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) say their studies do not support the findings of research released this week by Kansas State University that said cattle fed DDGs were twice as likely to have E. Coli present in their systems, according to a report in today's Omaha World-Herald.
"We respect their research, but we're puzzled," UNL researcher Terry Klopfenstein. "Our data is inconsistent with their data." He said his team of four researchers has found no increase in the occurrence of E. Coli in cattle fed DDGs, a byproduct of the ethanol production process.
Kansas State University researchers said their results were found using a diet of 25 percent DDGs, while UNL researchers found that levels of 10, 20 and 30 percent DDGs protected against E. coli. The Nebraska group did say higher levels showed an increase.
