Subject: RE: selling them

Southwest Missouri
I expect they would be separated at the sale barn. Short of sedating this cow (which is fraud and I would never do) before it went into the ring, it will be obvious that she is a problem. But, that is the risk of buying at the sale barn.

All our cows (we only have 80) came through the ring. We do not calve heifers because we are not home enough. I work in town during the day. I like to buy pairs because then I know she can calve. I also get to look at the calf, as opposed to buying a bred cow.

The cow's disposition in the ring is not an exact indicator of what she will be like once she is home. But, I stay away from excitable cows when I buy. Her disposition is definitely a factor when culling.

By the way, I personally do not bid. I pay one of the regular guys to bid for me. The regular guys run up the bid on a small time guy like me. It is cheaper, for me, here, to pay a guy $10 to bid for me. But, that is another issue altogether.
