I spoke with the manufacturer and they tell me they have never had a report of a cow injured in their design/manufactured feeder as pictured above.

There may be other cradle types that have, but in my and neighbors actual use I don't see this design losing much hay compared to ring type used before nor injuring cattle. I think you need to be careful before making generalized accusations. There are perhaps major differences in design between products.
