NE Kansas | Problem with all the electronic tagging systems is it's old, outdated technology; all low frequency. Big name companies like Allflex use the low frequency and its stuff that's been around since the early '90s. The industry needs to move toward ultra high freq and other similar systems. Low frequency tags measure in inches, UHF reads in feet. Of course people pushing low frequency will try to bring up the cost of UHF and it just doesn't hold water. I'm sure there were some systems that were pricey but was talking to a guy from a tag company and they had a working UHF tag that would run about $2; same as low freq. Low frequency has other hang ups: metal, fluorescent lighting, and vibrations screw it up and it can only read one at a time. | |
