Kansas | I dont' know what kind of salebarn your used to v-key but around these parts that just plainly could not happen for several reasons.
Most steers don't show up till sale day.
After steers are bought they are taken home that day and not left at the salebarn for a few unless you want to pay boarding charges and watch them shrink like hell eating old cane hay and wheat straw.
The auction yard people are not going to know anymore about that calf that came in then I will unless they seen him fly over the top of a gate before I get there or while i'm in the stands waiting for him to come in so I can bid. Matter of fact, most of those yard guys don't know squat about good cattle. They are simply horse nuts and enjoy that job for a reason to ride pony and be a cowboy for a day.
I agree with the idea of letting the kid visit with the salebarn head guy about where the livestock came from and what the intent is in mind with the purchase to see if he can't direct to some of a certain birth date or weight closer to what we are after.
Start with a lower quality calf and you won't have to pay market price either. You'll have less invested into a gauranteed money loosing proposition.
We won't be in agreement on this one. I've done this a few years longer than you have and with kids under my wing as well. I stand by my opinion. | |
