Subject: Re: Finishing Calves

Leesburg, Ohio
We finish out all our own calves from our small herd of about 60 angus commercial cows. Spring calvers. Wean in Nov. Start on hand -fed ground shelled corn and Land-o-Lakes Steakmaker non-medicated supplement. Bring them up to full feed in about a month or less, and use same feed in steer-stuffer self feeder. Keep a round bale of decent mixed hay in front of them at all times, and don't let them run out of feed. Start selling off early finishers in April-May. Sometimes have a few tail-enders done in late summer/early fall. Nothing fancy, but seems to work OK for us.
