Subject: RE: Where are the dairy farmers?

Sioux Center, Iowa
Guess dairying isn't as interesting as the rest of the farming activities. ; ) We're a family farm and milk a 100 in IA. We do everything ourselves from hoof trimming to hay & forages. Use AI. Closed herd. 27.500 RHA on 2x. Just finished a new double 8 Westfalia herringbone parlor and milkhouse. Kinda overkill for 100 cows, but it's nice to have some new stuff once. Other was 28 yrs old. Milkprice has been great, but the feed and other inputs are starting to sneak up on us. There's an exclusive dairy forum over at www.dairyforums.com

Hey Jake, you didn't tell us anything about yourself. Where in IA? A tremendous amount of dairy expansion here in NW IA. Kinda squashes us family outfits, sucks the oxygen out of any expansion possibilities for us here locally. No land left. Not for less than $9,000/acre anyway.
