| I been involved with cotton in the SE for the past 30 years and I also can't understand round bailing the stalks. I would guess the baler belts would not last for more than a few bales before the stalks would destroy them.
One thing you may have seen is the product of the new JD Cotton Picker that round bales the cotton as it is picked vs storing it in the hopper, before dumping in the module builder. If that was the case the bales should have been wrapped in a green (imagine that) material. The stalks are many times shred the same day as the cotton is picked so to see the field with no stalks and round bales still there would lead most to figure the stalks were baled.
