Driftless SW Wisconsin | I am at the ND Farm Bureau annual meeting in Bismarck and learned yesterday that North Dakota harvested more bushels of CORN in 2007 than wheat. With new technology, genetics and a bit of luck with weather the Dakotas are adding corn acres. Even though beans do well in some eastern North Dakota areas there just is not the push to add soybeans here. Maybe beans can pick up acres in the south or south central US areas but I don't see a big abrupt "shift" to beans at almost any price. Corn is working. There are new corn based ethanol plants sprouting up in areas such as NW ND (Richardton). Wheat, corn, edible beans are working. Folks that raise soybeans will probably continue to do so but no big change that I see. jmho. First snow on the ground this am in Bismarck....Jim at Dawn
