Probably do look the same on the surface. That's as far as "looks like" goes.

what you don't see is the the 4" depth of mellow ground that is allowed to warm and dry in the spring in basically one day that your planters row cleaner can't and won't do.

Mn soil is not Central Ill soil, we don't have the luxury of 50 degree soil temps by early April. On an average.... those don't arrive until around mid May, and that time frame puts us 3 weeks behind the optimum curve. The economic advantage to growing crops "here" says some steel had to meet the soil in the spring to warm up and dry out soil for timely planting.

Bring us up some 82 - 85 day corn that will yield in the 175 - 190 range, and we'll quit using steel up here in a heart beat.
