I also work off the farm. We have 10 pastures ranging from 5 to 15 acres. We have 80 cows and their calves. We mostly have fescue.

It is not hard to move cattle at all. They want fresh pasture. The cows are trained to run after the pickup when I honk the horn. A day or two before I move them, they want to follow anyway.

NVDave talks about the timing. My experience is the same. Do not let them eat it into the ground. It seems to regrow much faster if you leave 3 inches.

As a counterpoint, some New Zealanders have dairies in our area and they move each day and eat it down to the ground, then let it grow back 3-4 inches again. It seems to work for them. I think I will stick to leaving 3 inches or so.
