Subject: Why plant more corn at all?

Corn Beans
Income Income
4.06*180=$730 $9.71*60=582$
Expense Expense
Seed $65 Seed $35
NH3 $65 Fert $20
Starter $30 Chem $12
RR Chem $18 Headline $20
Force on Refuge $3 Crop ins. $15

Plowdown $25 582-107=$480
Headline+APP $20
Crop Ins. $25

730-250=$480

Plus we get a $1 premium over the CBOT for 93B82's which yield better than RR anyway on half our bean acres. Actually is like a 1.50 premium since the board is 50 under now. 20 dollars more for chemical on conventials 10 dollars less for seed with cruiser. I like planting corn but how can I justify it with these numbers. I know I have a rotation to keep but less corn equals less work in my book. Am i missing something? In the back of my mind I am thinking of what happened the last two years. If you went against what "Looked" best in the winter you were better off the next year. Corn in winter of 05 looked like a big time loser compared to beans so we dropped corn 3 million to 78 million and the ones that planted the bean crop that looked like the "loser", as corn shot up in late 06. Then again in the winter of 06 corn totally kicked butt in the winter 4 bucks to 7 bucks or around there, but now heck I could get 10.60 for jan beans which beats the 4 dollars I got out of field that was booked last february anyday. Not saying this year will be the same but history usually repeats itself. Has anyone else noticed this or am I the only one?
