I think you have something along the lines of gibberella stalk rot. Stalks will stay green because the top is shut off from the bottom, never matured as it should. Had a couple fields that had stalk troubles but got them before they went down. Usually breaks over second or third node up. pith is gone. Usually small blcak spots on the lower stalk. Comes with the right kind of weather. N might help it get started because of the extra fodder.
