The problem is, you could list a hundred examples like that, and they're all the problem. Everybody in Congress feels like their districts have a right to the funds. Nobody worries about where the funds come from. We need to get some people with sense in Washington. Problem is, people with sense don't wanna run for office.

I'll give you my own local example. Senator Bond recently earmarked something in the neighborhood of a million $$ to expand the runways at our local airport. We can already land a 727, and most private jets, but not all. This is for "Economic developement. We are only an hour or so from St. Louis and 40 minutes or so from Columbia, MO Airport, which is a controlled airport. Ours is not. Did we really need that? No. Is it nice? Sure. Will it benefit the local community???? Beats me.
