Southwest MO | Milo acres in SW MO have decreased a LOT in the last 5 years. The seed companys are not spending any money on reserch for new varieties, they can make more money on corn and SB varieties. The milo varieties planted this year were probably the same ones available 5-7 years ago.
Some farmers will grow it and feed it to thier own cows. Most of the milo that is sold around here goes to Penningtons bird seed plant in Greenfield MO. If you sell it to a country elevator, it will probably end up at Penningtons They supply a lot of WalMarts bird seed. Used to be a lot shipped to NW Arkansas poultry producers (i.e. Tyson, con agra, etc) but they quit buying milo a few years ago, so Penningtons bird seed is about the only big end user in the area. | |
