Ah, I thought there might be a difference in protocol.

Personally, I like the knife, but the vet we use will not cut bull calves over 600#, he'll band them. Depends on how close to weaning we work them as to how many are banded vs cut with a knife.

In Iowa, Gold tag means they have have been cut, wormed, poured, vaccinated, boostered, bunk broke, and weaned 30 days. The Green tag means everything but boostered. Iowa makes no difference between band and knife, they just want them castrated.
