Subject: Re: corn vs beans 08

southern MN
Corn on corn was not such a good thing in the very small circle around me. Too dry, bugs, too much inputs. Now we had heavy, heavy rains, tough to get any fall fert on or tillage done. Not sure how many will want to go for the 3rd year of corn on corn.

Last year we were short on acres, but we grew more corn, and used up a good portion of the huge pile of beans we had on hand.

What happens in '08? Wheat is kind of a popular crop again, despite the crashing price the past few days. Seems it won't lose any acres, maybe gain a few.

If we grow as much or more corn as we did last year, won't there be a shortage of beans?

If we grow more beans, closer to normal acres, won't there be a shortage of corn?

Or, are there enough acres available to grow all the wheat, corn, & soybeans we need for use & comfortable carryovers?

I don't believe we are at that new plateau stuff, crop prices will never go down, yadda yadda.... But, this seemed like at least a 2 year ride when it started last fall. Throw in the world wheat issues that developed, and it seems grains should have a pretty good year in '08 yet - if you are a seller.
