While corn stover may run as close as 85 to 90% of the energy value of brome hay. Its protien content is roughly 25 to 30% of good brome. In our part of the world we can winter and spring calve cows on good quality brome with no protien supplement. They can easily eat enough brome hay to recieve 2.5 lbs. protien daily which is more than adequate for a lactating beef cow. Stover makes a usable feed source with proper supplementation but comes nowhere close to good brome hay.
