West Ky
I'm in far Wky about 15 miles from the Miss. R. and we had a little less than 6 inches of rain from Jan 1-Sep9, we didn't get a drop from easter weekend til the very last of June and had a couple of rains in a few days that cut off on July 5. Those rains totaled around 1.75 inches and it did not rain again until Sep 9-11. It hit us just right for our corn in lateJune/early July. Some fields averaged around 50 and others around 150 depends on which field got hit by a stray thundershower. Other guys in this area faired little better and others worse. Seems this area was the worst around here, go east-west-south-north and the yields picked up quit a bit so say the other farmers who have farms in other areas. Our beans we havn't gotten out yet but they are starting to drop the leaves somewhat but the stems are still green with lots of blanks. The pods that do have beans have 1 bean in them and this is in bottom ground these are our conventionals. Our double crop beans are going to average more for the rain we received in Sep but a lot of the beans died and shriveled up so they are sparse looking out in the fields but the pods have some nice size beans in them. I estimate that the double crop beans will average close to 20. Some guys have said that some fields averaged 5-7 bu an acre. Try paying bills with these yeilds on top of that we had that killer freeze this spring that got the wheat.
