West Ky | Around here most guys rent the ground and don't own a lot of the ground because most of the landlords don't want to let it go. But you have one guy who gets in a few million a year for sitting on his butt and he buys ground with it. The picture is like this let's say you farm 1000 acres and you make your living off of it, all of it is either cash rent or on shares and it is owned by 3 landlords and the guy goes to all 3 of them several times throwing money at them to put you out of business. When somebody owns lets say 15,000 acres and trying to put others out to satisfy the greed some sparks are going to fly. I don't know why guys like this don't travel up north or out west where there are endless acres instead of around here in 40-200 acre fields and patches with ditches and such. There's been auctions of ground where many farmers attended but only one bid was made on the ground and nobody could come close to matching. There are other farmers around here who farm 5,000 acres but they rent and you can compete if you want to heck their is a couple of brothers who farm (rumors) close to 40,000. | |
