Embarrass WI

We milk about 225, so the test sheet shows we have a 255 cow herd. Rolling herd average is ~22,000. We feed 75+% forage(1/2 haylage and 1/2 corn silage), the (12#/hd)grain we do feed is mostly distiller's with some roasted soybeans.

We have a self propelled forage harvester and do some custom harvesting, so I get on several farms. There are large philosophical differences between owners/managers. All the ones I deal with are ran by their owners. Philosophies run the gamut from "whatever happens is OK" to, "Gotta have that last tenth of a cent".

Sounds to me like the guy you are dealing with would like to make a profit by sucking it out of you. Everyone would like a free lunch, most grown-up adults realize that the world doesn't work that way.

You have until next spring to find a different customer. If I was you, I would start looking. Or change over to regular grain crops, then there is a regular market and you don't need to get into these situations.
